Voornaam, Yesterday, a sad and shameful day in our nationâs history was capped off with a sad and shameful act by Oregon's newest Congressman, Republican Cliff Bentz. On what was just his third day in office, Bentz voted to object to the certification of Pennsylvania's Electoral College votes, supporting an effort to disenfranchise and throw out the legally cast ballots of nearly 7 million Americans. We had hoped that when Bentz arrived in Washington, D.C., he would act in accordance with the gravity and stature of his new office. Instead, one of his first votes as a Member of Congress was in fealty to the baseless and seditious attempts from Donald Trump to undermine the will of American voters and overturn the results of the 2020 Election. It was also in direct violation of his Oath of Office to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Yesterday, America saw what happens when our leaders decide not to serve the will of the people, but instead choose to serve and cater to the will of one man. And while Bentz's actions are shameful and disappointing, they are not entirely surprising â not after he led multiple walkouts by Oregon Republicans over the last two years to shut down the Oregon Legislature. Enough. Yesterday, Congressman Bentz failed Oregonians. We'll make sure Oregonians don't forget that. Thank you, â Oregon Democrats
