Sepsis occurs in 10% of American patients, or about 750,000 hospitalized patients annually, costing the industry $24 billion each year. Researchers found that a patient with sepsis is 10 times more likely to die than a patient without it. They also discovered between 34.7% to 52% of hospital deaths nationwide occurred in sepsis patients.
