Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Chris Cuomo

CNN’s Chris Cuomo interviewed his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday night. And in the process had a big ratings night.

Cuomo Prime Time drew 3,436,000 total viewers with 1,120,000 in the demo in the 9pm hour. That was behind dominant Hannity (1,305,000 in demo) for the slot, but ahead of MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, who pulled in 4,121,000 overall viewers and 796,000 in the demo.

Cuomo leads in to Don Lemon, who had an epic throwdown with John Kasich over President Trump's Covid-19 remarks. His CNN Tonight at 10 p.m. pulled in impressive demo ratings, too — drawing 953,000 in that category, with a whopping 2,505,000 total viewers.

That's over a million in the demo from 9 to 10, and just under a million from 10 to 11 for CNN.

Cuomo's huge numbers, and his large lead-in audience for helping Lemon pull a second impressive hour, may not have beaten ratings leader Hannity on the night.

But on a competitive, big news night, the big numbers were a big win for his show, his interview, his colleague, and of course, the network too.
MEDIA LOSER:
Alex Jones

As we noted here in the Green Room earlier this week, conspiracy theorist and InfoWars founder Alex Jones was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated on Tuesday, and subsequently it was reported that he was selling supplements as a coronavirus cure.

That news broke the same day the Secret Service warned Americans about the danger of scammers and criminals trying to profit from the outbreak.

Well the saga, it seems, did not end there.

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday ordered Jones to “immediately stop selling & marketing products as a treatment” for Covid-19.

Naturally, there is even more. Because in addition to calling his supplements "antivirals" and "literally a stopgap" against the virus, he also claimed that his “Superblue Fluoride-Free Toothpaste” for sale at his website “kills every virus.”

Judge James stated on Twitter that if Jones "doesn’t cease & desist these activities immediately, I won’t hesitate to take legal action.”

No question. He's a loser.

The A-Block

Social Distancing

The sheer number of things that have been shut down, delayed, postponed, or cancelled as a result of the spreading outbreak and surrounding concerns merits a lead spot in the A-Block. Here is a list of some of the big ones.

Some of the many Covid-19 closures & cancellations

- Travel to and from Europe, per President Trump.
- The NBA Season
- Public Access to Capitol Hill
- Major League Baseball, operations and spring training
- NCAA March Madness
- Disneyland and other Disney properties in California
- The NHL season
- Major League Soccer, for 1 month
- New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade
- Also Chicago's
- Also Pittsburgh's
- And the G-7 Summit in Pittsburgh
- Joy Behar, of her own accord

That Oval Office address

It caused some social media heartburn. Not to mention a brutal montage on MSNBC's Morning Joe and quite an interview on CNN's New Day.

Plus the EU said Trump didn't even warn them about the travel restrictions.

Super Mad Money

CNBC host and former hedge fund manager Jim Cramer announced that he thinks the federal government is considering some of his idea to combat economic uncertainty during the coronavirus crisis Thursday, after taking a mysterious “important call” live on air.

But then again, maybe not, as he lambasted the administration over not knowing anything, “They know nothing!" he said.

“They know nothing,” he repeated. Also he said the IRS should bring a halt to tax collection for a time because everyone is going to need the money for the trouble ahead.

Except that trouble is here already

Today the stock market had its worst day since the infamous Black Monday crash in 1987.

Major rant

If MSNBC political analyst and former Republican strategist Steve Schmidt is having an epic rant about Donald Trump, then it is probably a day of the week. But today's was worth clicking through to catch.

“The American people deserve to be told the serious, full, total truth about the gravity of this situation and what to do about it. They deserve to know the facts, not nonsense, not spin," said.

Accurate.

Testimony

CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield and NIAD Director Dr. Anthony Fauci testified for hours before congress on Thursday.

Of particular note: the grilling from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz over testing for Covid-19, and Rep. Katie Porter getting the CDC Director to finally agree that coronavirus testing should be free to the public to stem the pandemic.

Must-See Clip of the Day

Racist Orchestra

Full Frontal host Samatha Bee ripped the Trump administration for its handling of the coronavirus and Fox News personalities for their coverage of the pandemic Wednesday night.

"Tonight we are going on a weird, wild journey together because, due to the increasing threat of the coronavirus, we wanted to do the responsible thing and not have an audience," said Bee.

And a ride it was. Watch here.
