Broke but not forgotten: A number of residents in the Hunter Valley town of Broke are still displaced almost two months after flooding devastated the town. Some are living in temporary accommodation like caravans or with family and friends.
Shiraz to Shore: The Hunter Joint Organisation is working on a plan to build a 100 kilometre long cycling experience from the vineyards to the coast. The Shiraz to Shore trail is still in the planning phase and is designed to attract cyclists from across Australia and promote tourism across the Hunter Valley.
Pipeline residents meeting: Residents concerned about land access and potential damage who live along the proposed route of the controversial Hunter Gas Pipeline have met with federal Hunter MP Dan Repacholi. The project was bought by Australian gas and oil giant Santos earlier this month and it wants to bring construction of the pipeline forward.
March date for Newcastle 500: Supercars are likely to return to Newcastle's End after councillors voted to support the event being held from March 10 to 12. The event still needs heritage approval from the state government.
Push to fix Upper Hunter roads: Upper Hunter Shire Council is struggling to keep up with its road maintenance program following damage caused by recent bad weather. A submission being prepared will seek more federal government funding to repair and improve roads.
Heeney's star rises: Newcastle-born AFL star Isaac Heeney has added to his standout season, named in the All-Australian team. All-Australian honours are given to the best 22 players across the AFL over a season. Gear up for a slightly chilly, possibly rainy weekend (apologies to those on the summer countdown). We'll get to a top of 22 degrees Celsius during the remainder of the week, and on Friday there's be an 80 per cent chance of showers in the arvo and evening. Newy and Singo will be the warmest at 22 on Thursday, while Merriwa and Murrurundi will be the coldest at 15 on Saturday.
