Protecting your property and your loved ones is a top priority, whether you reside in the suburbs, near a park or reserve, or in a rural area. Here’s how you can help safeguard your home and family: For properties smaller than 4,047m2 For properties larger than 4,047m2 - Firebreaks should be in place from 1 November to 15 April
- Prune overhanging branches to provide a 4m high vertical clearance above the firebreak
- Remove dead vegetation within a 3m radius around houses, sheds, and other structures.
When can you burn? If you own a rural property, permits are required for burning on your rural property in October, November, April, and May. Burning is NOT allowed from December through to March. | | |

| | | The Great Aussie Bird Count Cockburn is home to many species of beautiful birds, including some rare and endangered species. Help to protect our feathered friends by participating in Birdlife Western Australia’s Aussie Bird Count from 16-22 October. Each year people across the country head out to their front yards, backyards, courtyards, parks and play areas to count how many birds they see to provide a snapshot of Australia’s more common bird species. It’s a fun, simple and safe activity observing nature, which is proven to provide benefits to mental health and wellbeing. Collecting this data at the same time each year allows us to look at the trends in our bird communities over time. Think of birds as a barometer for nature, as their health and wellbeing is one of nature’s best indicators. |
