Cockburnians - join us for Christmas on the Green!

Bring in the festive season this Saturday, 4 December, at our well-loved event, Christmas on the Green. There's heaps of free activities and entertainment, and a multitude of food vendors offering all sorts of cuisine and treats.

Make sustainable gifts and decorations
This year we are bringing back the Makers Tent. There's no need to book; just come inside and start making your sustainable gifts and decorations. Please note that kids must attend with an adult. Workshops include:

  • Coffee body and face scrub
  • Origami seed envelopes
  • Furoshiki upcycled material gift wrapping.

Other activities to enjoy

  • Santa's Grotto, mould painting & face painters
  • South Coogee Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade demos
  • Lakeland Senior High School Soloists
  • The Jenelle Russo Singers & Divalicious
  • Sandcards, camel rides and more!

Our event is carbon neutral, which means the carbon emissions released by the event (from attendee travel, food consumed and onsite generators) are offset by the City's investment in planting mixed native trees and shrubs in WA. Saturday 4 December, 4.30 - 8pm at Legacy Park, Veterans Parade, Cockburn Central.

Road upgrades to make your journey easier

Jandakot Road
Work from Berrigan Drive to Solomon Road (Stage 2) began in August and is due for completion by April 2022. The City and contractor Tracc Civil aim to maintain traffic in both directions and keep detours and speed reductions to a minimum. The $8.6m project will provide a safer road and footpath network for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Farrington/North Lake Road
To make turning into Farrington Road from North Lake Road safer, we are constructing a second right hand only turning lane, so there will now be two right hand only turning lanes and two continuous straight-ahead lanes. Construction should be completed by January 2022.

Hammond Road upgrade (Success)
The upgrade to Hammond Road from Branch Circus to Bartram Road has started and will include two lanes each way and new roundabouts at three key intersections. Construction should finish by April 2023.

The new facility is coming along nicely, and should be ready early 2022.
The new Frankland Park Sports & Community Facility

The new $9.3m Frankland Park facility in Hammond Park is coming along nicely. Opening in early 2022, the new facility will help encourage participation in sport, recreation, and other physical activity in the area, while providing a great space for the community to come together and socialise.

It includes two AFL size sporting ovals, an activity and function room (including a commercial grade kitchen) that can be hired out, club rooms, four changerooms and storage for hirers.

Upgrade to Beale Park, Spearwood

Upgrades to Cockburn’s premier soccer facility are one step closer following a second phase of community consultation in November 2021. Feedback was sought on a draft design including:
  • New multi-purpose sporting and community building
  • Additional game and training space
  • New playground
  • Improved sports lighting
  • New and upgraded parking areas.
The draft design was prepared following tree surveys, a Carnaby’s Cockatoo habitat assessment, plus input from local residents and the Cockburn City Soccer Club.

Feedback is being considered, alongside recommendations from environmental consultants and if required, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment, to guide the final design. Construction is expected to begin in early 2023.
Shutdown of the Mandurah Rail Line: 26 December - 14 January

The Mandurah rail line between Elizabeth Quay and Aubin Grove stations will close from 26 December-14 January 2022.

The 20-day shutdown is required to move the tracks to make room for the new Metronet
Thornlie-Cockburn train link, which will be operational in late 2024. Replacement buses will be running for the duration of the closure. Consider taking holidays over this period, or you could cycle into the CBD via the shared bike path along Kwinana Fwy (detours may be in place) to avoid heavy traffic.

Do your part to protect the Omeo Shipwreck

Our coastline is home to a unique and precious piece of maritime history, the Omeo shipwreck. Lying just 25 meters off the shore at Coogee Beach, the now haunting and coral-crusted wreck is all that remains of a 163-year-old English iron steamship.

The wreck is extremely vulnerable to damage with natural degradation accelerating in recent years. A major cause of this is misuse. It is important to remember that the wreck is not a pontoon or diving platform. When people climb on it, the wreck breaks and collapses in parts, which can also be unsafe for swimmers. The Omeo is federally protected and standing on or taking parts of the wreck without a permit is an offence under the Commonwealth Underwater Cultural Heritage Act 2018.

The next time you head to Coogee Beach for a swim or snorkel, please encourage others to look but not touch the wreck.  We can all do our part to preserve this amazing artifact for future generations.

Register to compete in our accessible sports carnival!

Don't worry, my dog's friendly!

Allowing your dogs to run up to other dogs and people is not ok, even if your dog is friendly. It can be dangerous, and some people are allergic, fearful or don’t want to greet your dog. Public spaces are for everyone to enjoy, so please be respectful of other residents.

Dog attacks

To reduce the chance of a dog attack, make sure your dog is trained, socialised and under effective control. Help prevent your dog from escaping by ensuring gates and doors are kept shut and secure at home.

It's your dog, it's your responsibility.

Our growing Port Coogee Marina

The third stage of the $5.6m Port Coogee Marina expansion project is well underway, with completion expected in early 2022.

There will be 70 new concrete floating berths for vessels ranging from 8 to 25m in length, three new floating jetties, a new loading berth, and two new gatehouses for our boaties. And for land lovers, a new timber boardwalk is being constructed for leisurely evening strolls along the waterfront!

Pens available
We have several 18 and 20m pens available when the marina expansion is complete early next year. If you are interested, get in contact with the marina office on 08 9411 3390 or complete an expression of interest form to secure a berth in advance of project completion.
