Our iconic Coogee Beach Jetty, which dates back to the 60s, has had a significant upgrade since the City last rebuilt it in 2000.
A new ramp has been added so people with mobility issues, or those pushing prams, can easily access the water's edge. Before the addition, the ramp ended high on the beach. The decision to build the new ramp was in response to feedback from beach users, particularly elderly swimmers.
The City also undertook maintenance and renewal work to the existing structure of the jetty in time for the busy warmer months.
The City is working on its Local Planning Strategy, which sets out how land within the City will be used and developed in the future. We have developed the draft and want to hear your feedback by 4pm on Monday 21 November.
With a growing population, there is increasing demand for employment and infrastructure, such as transport, housing, and space for recreation, while protecting the natural landscape. All dogs over three-months-old must be registered and microchipped by law. Cats over six-months-old must be registered, microchipped, and sterilised. Registration is due by Monday 31 October and you can choose between a lifetime, three-yearly or annual registration.

Don’t forget that your pet needs to be microchipped by a vet before they can be registered. Your pet's microchip details are stored on a national database, which helps our rangers to return your pet if it’s lost. To retrieve the microchip details, please call your vet.

In 2016, the City began expanding Port Coogee Marina through a multistage process, with a vision to create a destination worthy of our beautiful beaches.
The third stage of this expansion was completed in September 2022, with the addition of 69 new boat pens spread across three new concrete floating jetties. Other new features include a 90-metre waterfront timber boardwalk, a new loading berth area, two gatehouses serving the new jetties, motion-activated jetty lighting, and boardwalk seating made from jarrah recycled from the Coogee Beach jetty.
Illegal dumping & littering costs residents $1.5m a year
Illegal dumping and littering is an offence that costs ratepayers and the City approximately $1.5m a year in clean-up costs and resources. Illegal dumping is anything that can fit into the size of a small trailer, and anything less is littering.
Illegal dumping is not only an eyesore for residents; it can also attract vermin and other scavenging animals to the area. Over time, this can negatively impact local property prices. Dumping hazardous waste can also affect the environment if it is not contained correctly and can be dangerous for residents, especially children.
Where can I dispose of my bulk waste or tyres?
Please take them to the Henderson Waste Recovery Centre (HWRC) at 920 Rockingham Rd, Henderson. All ratepayers in Cockburn receive six trailer passes per year to the HWRC.

Cut long grass or weeds to a maximum height of 50mm
Remove dead vegetation.
For properties LARGER than 4,047m2
Construct firebreaks
3m wide cleared surface inside the property boundary
in place from 1 November to 15 April
Prune trees so they have a vertical clearance of 4m
Remove dead vegetation 3m wide around houses, sheds and other structures.
When is a permit to burn required?
If you own a rural property, you need a permit to burn on your property in October, November, April and May. Burning is prohibited from December to March inclusive.

While the City treats sumps, soak wells, road drains, and other man-made water bodies to prevent breeding, there are things you can do to protect yourself and your home:
Cover up with long, loose-fitting clothing
Use a repellent containing DEET (diethyltoluamide) or picaridin
Empty, remove or cover water-holding containers
Install insect screens on windows and doors
Use mosquito nets and mosquito-proof tents when camping
Make sure your pool is chlorinated, and the filtration system is active.
