International Volunteer Day!

Thank you!

Today celebrates International Volunteer Day and recognises outstanding contributions globally. Cockburn's community is enriched by a thriving network of diverse and active volunteers and volunteer organisations. The City extends the warmest of thank you's to all those who gives time generously to make Cockburn the best place to be.

Meet A Volunteer

Meet Nigel

Nigel Tinson has volunteered at the Cockburn Seniors Centre for eight years and has been on the City of Cockburn's Age-friendly reference group for three years. At this year's City of Cockburn Senior Centre Volunteer Lunch, he was named Senior Centre Volunteer of the Year for 2022.

Nigel generously gives his time and makes a difference by:
  • Facilitating the iPad/smart devices social group
  • Helping Seniors within the community stay connected through the use of technology
  • Supporting the front desk volunteers and staff by filling in when volunteers can't make a shift or are on leave
  • Coordinating the member's footy tipping completion
  • Advocating for Seniors through the Age-friendly reference group
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, he gave many hours assisting Seniors with technology. His support was vital, especially when the government required proof of vaccination and check-in apps to be loaded on phones.

The lasting positive outcomes from Nigel helping the seniors are unmeasurable, and he is such a valued volunteer at the Cockburn Seniors Centre
