Meet Norm, he is the 2021 Cockburn Volunteer Award winner for the Mayor's category. Who do you volunteer for? I am the co-founder and President of Friends of the Community Inc (FOC), a volunteer-run food vendor that specialises in providing low-cost food at special/community events, and returns the profits back to the community. What have you achieved this year? Through funds raised from our flagship event the Manning Park Trail Run 2022 and other volunteer events during the year, we were able to donate $5000 to Royal Life Saving Society WA, an organisation that teaches people to swim. How does FOC engage youth? We provide volunteering opportunities for youth. We train them in Food Safety as well as Work Health and Safety and give them experience in the food industry. This experience helps them with future employment opportunities. Additionally, we also provide scholarships to enable the Year 11 and 12s to continue their university studies. How can people get involved with FOC? It's all about helping people that is what we do. There are many different volunteering opportunities at FOC, if you would like to join the volunteering team at FOC email foc@friendsofthecommunity.org |
