College hoops’ international takeover

During the runup to the NBA Draft, there was much conversation about the way NIL and revenue sharing spurred a dramatic decrease in the number of underclassmen who entered the draft. There’s a flip side to that coin as well, because college basketball is about to experience a significant influx of international talent. The reason is the same: These guys want to get paid.

That is going to add a lot of intrigue and flavor to the 2025-26 season. It’s also making it even harder to keep track of the roster flow, so our new correspondent Oliver Fell is burning the midnight oil to monitor the action overseas. Today, Oliver has his top 10 college-bound players who are on display this week at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket in Greece and Armenia. Remember their names because they will be hooping soon at a campus near you.

So, too, will many of the high school players who are hitting the road this month to play in front of college coaches. Our Sam Lance was on hand at a pair of events last week, and we’ll be very well covered this week for the biggest event of the summer recruiting circuit, the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C. Also, you may have noticed there has been some Caitlin Clark chatter lately (when is there not Caitlin Clark chatter?), but back at Clark’s alma mater Jan Jensen is trying to keep the winning going, as our women’s correspondent Angie Holmes reports. Top 10 College Basketball Players to Watch in the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket Tournament

More than 75 college basketball players will be playing for 37 countries in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket, which began Sunday and runs through July 21. Here is a look at the top 10 college players in the tournament.

All FIBA U20 EuroBasket games will be streamed free on the FIBA YouTube channel. Highlights and key performances will be posted on Hoops HQ social media accounts (@hhqsports on X, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok).

1. Alvaro Folgueiras, 6-foot-9 junior forward, Iowa (Spain)

Folgueiras, who is transferring from Robert Morris to Iowa, projects as the star of the Spanish team, ranked second in the world. He will have ample support, surrounded by five fellow Division I players.

Folgueiras is by far the most accomplished college player in this tournament. He was the 2024-25 Horizon League Player of the Year and was one of the most efficient players in college basketball last season, leading the Horizon League with a 65.1 percent true shooting percentage. Folgueiras topped the Horizon League in both offensive and defensive rating last season, one of only two players to lead a conference in both categories.

Five Burning Questions For the 2025-26 Men's Hoops Season

Somehow, it feels like just yesterday and a lifetime ago that the Florida Gators cut down the nets in San Antonio.

It’s hard to believe how much action has been packed into just three months. The new college basketball landscape has made the offseason far busier and more chaotic, leaving us with an abundance of burning questions. We’ll gradually work through them over the summer as we look ahead to what should be a fascinating 2025-26 campaign.

1. Will the ACC bounce back after a lackluster season?

The ACC is coming off a historically bad season in which it received just four bids to the NCAA Tournament. Outside of No. 1 seed Duke, no ACC team advanced to the Round of 32. In the second annual ACC-SEC challenge, a series of matchups between the two conferences, the ACC went 2-14.

But in 2025-26, the conference has the potential to bounce back. Duke should be a powerhouse once again, and programs such as Louisville, NC State, Virginia, North Carolina and Syracuse appear on the rise...
