| | MEDIA WINNER: Kaitlan Collins CNN’s Kaitlan Collins was elected to serve as the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association in 2024. Collins bested Francesca Chambers of USA Today by a vote of 240 – 201, and will hold on to the title for a three-year term. The Alabama native was bombarded with congratulatory messages from many of her peers in media and in the White House press corps, including the official WHCA Twitter account. "A huge thanks to my fellow members of the White House Correspondents’ Association for this vote of confidence," Collins wrote in a Wednesday tweet. "I am honored, humbled and ready to get to work!" Collins accomplished the impressive feat in her fifth year with CNN, where she started working at age 30. In 2017, Collins left the conservative Daily Caller to join CNN and quickly became a prominent face in the White House briefing room during the term of former President Donald Trump. Over the course of the Trump administration, Collins made a name for herself as a no-nonsense, high-metabolism White House correspondent for the network. Even after Trump left office, she continued to be a leader on the beat, asking the tough questions and never failing to press the administration on Democrat missteps. Big congratulations to Collins for the incredibly well-deserved promotion. |

| MEDIA LOSER: Jason Chaffetz Fox News worked up an outraged froth throughout the day Wednesday about Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) travel to Montana, with on-air personalities and chyrons accusing him of “ignoring his own travel ban.” However — as their own reporter Jonathan Hunt pointed out — the travel ban applied to state-funded travel, not personal trips, and Newsom and his wife were visiting her parents. Despite that fact, the network continued the misleading framing in multiple reports throughout the day, often omitting the actual reason Newsom was traveling. Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), now a Fox News contributor, repeated that error while filling in for Sean Hannity. "Now failing far-left Governor Gavin Newsom caught yet in more hypocrisy tonight because, get this, Newsom is reportedly on vacation in Montana despite California's ban on state-sponsored travel to Montana," he said. In his own report, Chaffetz noted that Newsom's office denied that the state was paying for the trip. Unsatisfied, Chaffetz pinpointed something else to complain about. He went on to condemn Newsom for hiring a security team for the trip, even faulting his office for refusing to provide details on ... a politician's security. To top it all off, Chaffetz kicked off last night's Hannity by mocking Speaker Nancy Pelosi with Tucker Carlson after a photo of her at a beach surfaced online. Really hilarious stuff, guys. |

| Up to a decade in prison WNBA superstar Brittney Griner pleaded guilty to drug possession charges as her trial continued in Russian court on Thursday. Griner, the Phoenix Mercury center and Olympic medalist, was detained in February for allegedly bringing cannabis oil into Russia, where it is illegal. She faces up to a decade in prison. “I’d like to plead guilty, your honor,” said Griner in English, translated into Russian, during her court appearance. “But there was no intent. I didn’t want to break the law.” “I’d like to give my testimony later,” she added. “I need time to prepare.” This development comes a day after President Joe Biden talked with Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner, by phone, and as his administration faces growing pressure to secure Griner's release. Prior to her guilty plea, Griner had appealed directly to Biden in a handwritten letter sent to the White House and released by her representatives on Monday. In the letter, Griner wrote, “As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever.” Biden penned a letter in return, which was given to Griner on Thursday through the U.S. Embassy in Russia. It's likely that Biden's letter, which emphasized that freeing Griner and American detainees is a top priority, played a role in her decision to plead guilty. Well, let's hope it doesn't come to that Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) said she’d do anything to protect her grandchildren during a June floor speech on gun reform, including shooting all five of them. A now-viral clip of the speech shows the Arizona Republican striding to the microphone to deliver her impassioned argument against red flag laws — by raising the reddest flag in congressional history. “I have five grandchildren. I would do anything — anything — to protect my five grandchildren," Lesko said. "Including, as a last resort, shooting them, if I had to, to protect the lives of my grandchildren." Watch the bonkers speech here. |
