This Week in Nursing “We are in an environment where underlying violence is considered acceptable. We are expected not only to survive, but turn right around, respond, and treat casualties.” Researchers hope to bring the discussion about moral distress among chief nursing officers into the open. Stress can have a huge impact on nurses’ health and lead to burnout in both their professional and personal lives. A study of 120 nurses in a Midwestern hospital published in Nursing Research and Practice showed that in general, the participating nurses were not healthy, with 92% experiencing moderate-to-very high stress levels. Nurse leaders—from unit level managers to CNOs—are vital to the financial success of healthcare organizations. However, many nurse leaders are not given the proper training to help them develop the knowledge and understanding of healthcare finance. Without adequate training and support, it can be difficult to manage financial issues and even more difficult to improve financial outcomes.
During this webinar, Ronda McKay, DNP, CNS, RN, NEA-BC and Paula McKinney, DNP, RN, NE-BC will help nurse leaders better understand the role they play in achieving an organization’s financial goals. They will review common terminology and key metrics and teach participants how to perform a cost-benefit analysis.
