Help us defeat this ISP-funded misinformation campaign.
Free Press Action

Friend,

Four years ago today the FCC passed the strongest Net Neutrality protections in history — a move hailed as the agency’s greatest public-interest victory of all time.

Photo: On Feb. 26, 2015 outside the FCC, Free Press and our allies gathered to make our voices heard one more time before the big vote at the agency. Just hours later the FCC passed strong Net Neutrality rules under Title II of the Communications Act.

Look how excited we were! Oh, four years ago. You were something else.

So what’s happened since then? Let’s review:

  • Trump became president.
  • Trump appointed public-interest enemy Ajit Pai to chair the FCC.
  • Pai eradicated the FCC’s Net Neutrality rules.
  • Congress tried to overturn Pai’s bad move — winning enough votes in the Senate but falling short in the House.
  • The 2018 midterms marked a game change in Congress.
  • The most diverse class in congressional history was sworn in.

Which brings us up to the last few weeks. Republicans in Congress know that the public wants Net Neutrality. But they’re happy to introduce whatever legislation the cable and phone companies tell them to. Whether those bills actually protect the open internet (spoiler alert: they don’t) doesn’t matter to them.

That’s why there are three terrible Net Neutrality bills floating around the House right now and an army of telecom lobbyists making the rounds on Capitol Hill — spreading lies and whatever else they can (campaign contributions?) to convince members of Congress to get on board.

Tell Rep. Lieu to stay off the fake Net Neutrality bills.

We urgently need your help to defeat this ISP-funded misinformation campaign.

Thanks for all that you do,

P.S. Urgent: Speak out today to stop Rep. Lieu from supporting the fake Net Neutrality bills.
