This Spring marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrate his life by examining his legacy.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS
Civil Rights: A Commemoration of Dr. King

March 17, 2018 (9:30 am - 1:30 pm)

How do artworks record the actions and legacy of civil rights workers? How can they inspire students to explore history and the present? Join area teachers as well as Faye Colon from Teaching for Change to practice strategies that bring the complexity of the civil rights movement into conversation with today.

$10 workshop fee includes breakfast and lunch.

HANDS-ON ENGAGEMENT FOR STUDENTS
A Morning with Artist Lava Thomas
April 6, 2018 

Do you have a crew of student movers and shakers, change-makers-in-the-making? Don't miss this unique opportunity for your middle and high school students to work with Lava Thomas, a contemporary artist from SAAM's collection! An artist talk and hands-on activities will center on ideas of social justice.

Join educators from across the country for an exciting exploration of the connections among American art, social studies, history, and English/language arts. Stay connected with your newfound colleagues and museum staff throughout the year.

Would you like to host a museum educator in your classroom and give your students a chance to learn Humanities content through art? We're available through June 2018!
We're testing new teaching resources for SAAM's Renwick Gallery and we need real, live students and teachers to tell us what they think!

Four topics are on offer:
  1. Perspective-Taking
  2. Connection-Making
  3. Successful Communication
  4. Uncovering Hidden Stories
