We invite you to join Art in Action and Kids & Art Foundation for a memorable afternoon of wishes, yarn bombing, inspiration and creativity. This heartwarming gathering of the community will combine a day of commemorating Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with the debut of our new lesson inspired by Yoko Ono’s Wish Trees. This project builds on Ono’s concept of creating wish tags and hanging them on the trees, but adds an artistic dimension and whimsy incorporating yarn bombing (a type of graffiti or street art that covers objects or structures in public places with colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn) into the public art display. These wish trees give children and their families the opportunity to creatively express themselves through art, while connecting with others in their community. Imagine the positive, healing power of these community wish trees, especially for those facing illness, adversity or trauma. If you are a knitter, crocheter, and/or weaver, we encourage you to bring a piece of your work (please use acrylic yarn), 3 inches wide by 1-3 feet long, to be incorporated in the yarn bombing of the trees. Can't make it? No problem! Mail in yarnworks to Mara c/o Art in Action, 3925 Bohannon Dr. Suite 300, Menlo Park, CA 94025 by 9/25/18 to have them included in the piece. We are grateful to our many partners listed below and hope to see you there. Please share this email and the event with others. Art in Action Team
