Quick tip of the day

Here’s an unsung hero of your keyboard: The Shift key. You already know it capitalizes letters, but it has a ton of other handy uses, too.

The Shift key actually reverses other common commands. Here are some examples:

  • Ctrl+Z = undo; Shift+Ctrl+Z = redo
  • Space = scroll down a webpage; Shift+space = scroll up on a webpage
  • Ctrl+Tab = next tab; Shift+Ctrl+Tab = previous tab
  • Alt+Tab = next app; Shift+Alt+Tab = previous app
  • Ctrl+T = open a new tab; Shift+Ctrl+T = reopen the last closed tab
