Competing against unemployment: Businesses may struggle in luring workers back
Part of that stimulus package expanded unemployment benefits to include additional dollars. Some midwest companies among first to sue for business-interruption denials
A handful of Kansas City-area businesses have filed suit against their insurance companies, alleging their insurers wrongly denied their claims of business interruption stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
The suits are among the first of what lawyers locally and nationally anticipate will be a wave of litigation as businesses try to recover their losses from the pandemic.

Small businesses likely target of False Claims Act liability for CARES Act fraud
Businesses are well-advised to take extra precautions when applying for relief through CARES Act initiatives such as the Paycheck Protection Program and the Small Business Debt Relief program. These programs require applicants to certify that they are eligible for relief, and that they will use the funds for authorized purposes only. Any knowingly false or misleading statements made in order to obtain financial assistance from the government could trigger liability.
