1. EKOenergy's Bamboo Award for Nordic Green Energy Sweden |
EKOenergy’s Bamboo Award is an annual recognition for the licensee that has grown the fastest in the previous year. In 2021, the Bamboo Award goes to Nordic Green Energy Sweden! Congratulations! What’s even more remarkable is that Nordic Green Energy Sweden won the Bamboo Award last year too, and in an extremely competitive setting. They have grown, in two years' time, from a relatively small licensee to the top 10 of EKOenergy's sellers. Hats off to the whole team! Read the short interview with Björn Visell, Nordic Green Energy Sweden's Business Area Manager B2B & Public, on our website. |

2. EKOenergy's Ivy Award for Eida from Luxembourg |
EKOenergy’s Ivy Award honours sellers that have made remarkable efforts in the promotion of EKOenergy-labelled energy. We proudly announce that this year’s EKOenergy Ivy Award goes to Eida, for promoting EKOenergy-labelled renewable electricity in Luxembourg. Congratulations! In 2016, Eida became one of the first energy retailers in continental Europe to start offering electricity with our label and they are currently the only EKOenergy licensee in Luxembourg. Throughout the years, Eida has gradually expanded the scope of our cooperation and nowadays, all electricity they sell to households is EKOenergy-labelled. This facilitates smooth and clear communication and simplifies the administration, while at the same time guaranteeing the highest quality to all their consumers. 3. Concrete results from our solar project in Ethiopia |
Thanks to the contributions of EKOenergy users, we are able to finance new, additional renewable energy projects where they're needed the most. All financed projects contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Last week, we got the final report from a solar project we financed in Ethiopia, implemented by the NGO Solafrica. Solafrica and their local partners have installed solar panels at two health centres and three primary schools, improving their energy supply greatly. In addition, more than 60 young people have received a practical training in solar equipment installation and maintenance. The two health centres, together, treat more than 48,000 people per year and the installations on the primary schools bring electricity to more than 1,500 students for the first time. Having access to a clean and reliable energy supply makes a direct positive impact on both the health care and the quality of education. You can read more about similar projects we have supported on our website. |

"Previously, we used to go to Debre Birhan Town to duplicate notes for students, prepare exams, and also for correspondences and proceedings with computer, which was tiresome. But now, thanks to the donated solar system and solar technology apprentices, we feel that all our intentions and dreams can be realised." - Ato Terefe Tegegne, teacher in one of the Ethiopian schools now equipped with a solar installation |

4. Tecopesca - First EKOenergy user in Ecuador! |
EKOenergy licensee Delta Global SA Ecuador completed an on-site installation of 200 kWp for canned foods producer Tecopesca. The consumption from this installation is EKOenergy-labelled and covers a portion of the facility’s overall energy use, making Tecopesca the first EKOenergy consumer in Ecuador. They are, at the same time, the first energy consumer to use EKOenergy from an on-site solar installation in Latin America! Choosing to use EKOenergy-labelled electricity gives Tecopesca the right to communicate about their use of EKOenergy and the additional benefits the ecolabel brings. 5. Communication campaign: EKOenergy for the cosmetics sector |
EKOenergy regularly sets up communication campaigns to promote the use of renewable energy by focusing on a specific sector. By highlighting companies that are already using EKOenergy-labelled energy, we encourage their peers to switch to 100% EKOenergy-labelled energy too. Following our previous campaigns for the brewery sector and the fashion industry, this year we focus on companies producing beauty products. Several companies in the sector are already using EKOenergy-labelled energy and we hope to encourage many others to follow their example worldwide. Some of the materials we prepared to support our outreach efforts include: - Leaflet: Did you know that beauty can be powered by green energy? - Leaflet: EKObeauty - Make up your mind for the planet - Presentation: EKObeauty, the renewable climate care routine our planet needs. Interested in hearing more about the campaign? Do you need materials in your own language? Contact us at info@ekoenergy.org. |

6. Ten reasons to choose EKOenergy |
EKOenergy is a nonprofit initiative, endorsed by environmental NGOs. It's an award-winning ecolabel that leads to additionality in many ways. Our internationally recognised and protected logo is a visible and efficient communication tool. These are only some of the many reasons to sell or buy 100% EKOenergy-labelled energy. In our new presentation "Ten reasons to choose EKOenergy", we explain other reasons too! If you want to hear more, feel free to invite us for a virtual coffee or to a meeting with your sales and communication teams. We can give a short overview in 10 minutes, or dig deeper into it for 30 minutes or an hour. Contact us at info@ekoenergy.org. |

7. Another nail in the coffin of climate wreckers |
For the first time in history, a judge has held a corporation liable for causing dangerous climate change. As a result of the legal action brought by Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie) together with 17,000 co-plaintiffs, the court in the Hague ruled that oil giant Shell must reduce its CO2 emissions by 45% within 10 years. Also in Australia, climate activists won in court: the federal court has found that the environment minister has a duty of care to protect young people from the climate crisis in a judgment hailed by lawyers and teenagers. There are currently 1,800 lawsuits related to climate change being fought in courtrooms around the world, according to the database climatecasechart.com. The recent rulings in favor of young generations and against climate inaction could have a powerful ripple effect, not only in cases against states and the oil industry, but also increasingly in cases against other polluters. |
