Dear Voornaam,
Next weekend, Democrats will gather in Sunriver for the Oregon Summit, a celebration of Democrats who champion change and who remain steadfast in their dedication to promoting a better future for all.
On Saturday October 21st at 1:00pm, we will host a Congressional District 5 Candidates' Forum, featuring Democratic candidates for CD5 who have opted to qualify for the event.
The event will be open to everyone attending the Summit, and it will be livestreamed for those who can’t attend.
All Democratic candidates for CD5 were invited to opt-in to qualify for participation in the forum and three candidates have chosen to do so. Each has agreed to work to demonstrate that they are running a competitive campaign by meeting four minimum requirements in order to qualify to participate in the forum.
One of the four qualifications is to collect on-line signatures from 150 registered Oregon Democratic voters supporting the candidate’s participation in the forum.
If you’d like to help one (or more) of the three Democrats (who are listed below in alphabetical order by last name) qualify for the forum, please click on their link below to sign their on-line petition:
Janelle Bynum
Jamie McLeod-Skinner
Lynn Peterson
Please note: the information you provide will be shared with the candidate’s campaign.
Qualifications:
The candidate must be a Democrat who has filed to run for CD 5 with the Oregon Secretary of State.
The candidate must have deposited at least $35,000 into their campaign account as of noon on October 17th, 2023.
The candidate must have received at least 100 individual campaign donations of $50 or less from 100 different individuals residing in Oregon. The campaign will provide to the DPO a list of these donor’s names, addresses, and the date and amount of their contributions. This list will remain confidential and will not be used by the DPO for any other purposes. Individual contributors may be counted if their aggregate contributions exceed $50, but each individual contributor must have made at least one campaign contribution of $50 or less.
The candidate must collect “signatures” from 150 registered Oregon Democrats on an individualized online DPO petition by October 17th at noon supporting the candidate’s participation in the forum (if you are attempting to qualify for this forum and would like to receive a petition form, please contact candy@dpo.org).
Documentation of meeting each condition must be sent to the DPO by noon on October 17th, 2023. All candidates will be notified via email by 5 pm on October 17th, 2023 if they qualify for the forum. The final structure for the forum and forum questions will be shared by email with all candidates qualifying for the forum by midnight on Thursday, October 19th.
If you have not yet bought tickets to the Summit and would like to come, please buy your ticket here.
Watch the forum here if you can't make it in-person!
The DPO also needs your help in developing questions for the forum. If you would like to offer a question or an idea that could form the basis of a question used in the forum, please click here to submit your suggestion. (Any question asked during the forum will need to be fair to all participants and something to which any candidate could reasonably respond.)
Yours in the fight for a better Oregon,
Oregon Democrats
