Louisiana's new congressional map is unconstitutional, court rules

BY JESSICA WILLIAMS | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Redistricting case: A U.S. District Court has ruled that the Legislature's move to add a second majority-Black district to the state's congressional map is unconstitutional, raising questions about the future of congressional redistricting in the state, Brendan Heffernan reports.

ESA bills: Amid criticisms that the program would cripple public education and create exhorbitant costs for the state, the Louisiana Senate introduced a measure that would pump the brakes on Gov. Jeff Landry's plan to fund private schools with public dollars, Patrick Wall reports.

Ware Youth Center: Despite past suicides and escapes at a Red River Parish youth jail, the state inspector general has declared the facility 'safe and secure' in a recent report, Meghan Friedmann reports. The report relegates the problems at the center to a small group of incarcerated youth.
