Connected TV Advertising Eyes Rebound

Programmatic transactions on CTV rose 40% between April and May, a notable uptick after advertising spends were significantly adjusted as the Covid-19 pandemic took hold. Sources said the auto category's increase in spend, in particular, is promising of the marketplace's improvement.

It remains to be seen what part CTV (as well as OTT advertising) will still play in the 2020 presidential election, the first since a number of advertising-supported streaming services launched. Before the pandemic, experts had called it the "gem" of this election season. The Biden campaign had embraced the medium at the end of last year and committed to advertising on services such as Hulu as part of larger media buys. Experts predicted—before the pandemic—that such spends would help narrow the amount political candidates purchased on linear TV versus OTT devices.

In other news, TikTok apologized for a glitch that affected hashtags, dating apps are adjusting their marketing messaging and Facebook released a new feature to clean up old posts.
