Connecting with Newcomers this Easter

Easter is right around the corner. I’m already seeing some churches announcing some over-the-top plans to celebrate, including a “Helicopter Egg Drop.” I don’t think such stunts are necessary. Celebrating the Son of God rising from the dead is exciting enough.

But as we celebrate the birth of our Lord, I do understand why churches want to make the most of this momentous occasion. Easter represents a unique evangelistic opportunity, a time when many unbelievers come to church perhaps for the first time. While the message and music are important, ultimately, they’re not enough. We need to make efforts to personally connect with newcomers, welcoming them into our communities.

Evangelistic and Newcomer Ministry is a resource that will help your church do just that. It provides leaders with materials that offer many options for the church in communicating in a gentle but clear way with unchurched persons.

While we’re on the topic of Holy Week, read Esau McCaulley on why we should ponder donkeys, not branches on this Palm Sunday. It’s a powerful piece that will get you thinking about how we can follow Jesus’ humble example amid the temptations of power.
