Quick Tip

Create an allied health credentials committee

The number of non-physician practitioners credentialed by hospitals and health systems is growing exponentially. Some observers estimate that more than 300,000 clinicians nationwide fit this description. A variety of labels is used to characterize these caregivers, including allied health practitioners, midlevel providers, and advanced practice professionals. Within the ranks of these providers are NPs, PAs, nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists, registered nurse first assistants for surgical procedures, and an expanding group of other caregivers.

HCPro is conducting market research for a product we would like to launch this year and looking for some quick feedback from you. If you also are involved in any aspect of graduate medical education at your facility, please help us with the following.

We’re in the process of developing an e-learning course on resident orientation for new trainees. Residents would  easily access this training on their computers or mobile devices. Do you think this product would be helpful and why? Do you think residents prefer electronic resources over printed materials? What topics would you like to see addressed in this resource?

If you have any feedback to share, please send it to editor Karen Kondilis at kkondilis@hcpro.com. For providing feedback, you will be given a free on-demand webinar. Thanks!

Faced with continual change in care delivery and reimbursement, healthcare institutions across the continuum are tightening the purse strings and charging their teams to do more with less. For many medical staffs, this means capturing strong performance data on a growing array of clinicians and meeting increasingly rigorous quality standards without the aid of sophisticated software, appropriately trained staff, or comprehensive resources.

Featuring an unmatched combination of expert-vetted measures from the field and actionable guidance on their broader implementation, Performance Indicators: Clinical Specialty-Specific Strategies and Samples equips medical staff leaders, MSPs, and quality professionals with the tools and know-how to capture holistic competence data for clinicians spanning specialties.

Expert author Teresa P. Sappington, FACHE, MBA, CIPM, CAPPM, CPHQ, CPMSM, provides in-depth strategy on selecting, structuring, operationalizing, and ensuring the continued effectiveness of professional practice evaluation metrics.
