Hi Friends!

Happy New Year! We're super excited for the upcoming hiking season, and we look forward to helping you get after your outdoor goals in 2023. There's no time like the present to start cooking up some adventure plans (and maybe some DIY backpacking meals too)!

The CleverHiker Team has been busy testing gear, winter camping, and traveling for the holidays. Dave and Annie welcomed baby #2 into their pack, and are continuing on their parental adventure.

As always, thanks for following, and make sure to hit us up on social media.

Winter Camping Checklist
Whether you’re experienced, or you’ve never been winter camping before, working through a thorough checklist will give you peace of mind when preparing for an adventure.
Best Winter Boots
(View Men's/View Women's)
Footwear that keeps you warm and dry will make it much easier to go outside and enjoy some exercise, sunlight, and fresh air when the temperature drops.
Best Ultralight Tents
A backpacking tent will be among the heaviest items you carry on backcountry adventures. An ultralight tent is one of the easiest ways to cut weight and lighten your load.
Best Snowshoes
Snowshoeing is one of our all-time favorite winter activities. The trails are less crowded, the air is crisp, and there’s a certain silence you don’t experience during other seasons.
How to Train for a Backpacking Trip
Hiking and backpacking are more than just walking, they’re endurance sports. The more you train, the better you’ll feel when the big day comes.
Best Sleeping Pads
Great sleep in the backcountry can be surprisingly tough to come by, but a top-notch sleeping pad will help. We've tested a ton of pads over the years and can help you find the perfect one.
GEAR PICK OF THE WEEK
Darn Tough Hiker Micro Crew Socks

Darn Tough Hiker Micro Crew Socks are comfortable, breathable, and built to last - which is why they're the top pick on our list of the Best Hiking Socks. The wool blend makes them stink-resistant, and excellent for temperature regulation in warm and cool conditions.

Micro Crews have a tight weave for outstanding durability, and in our experience, they last for years. Darn Tough socks aren't cheap, but they're worth every penny, and they're backed up by an unconditional lifetime guarantee.
