From Monday, some pupils will be returning to school and friends and family can meet up in outside spaces. At the daily Downing Street press conference the Prime Minister said groups of up to six people from outside one household can meet in private gardens, “provided those from different households continue strictly to stick to social-distancing rules” by staying two metres apart. Thousands of non-essential shops are also getting ready to open and are working out how they can make the shopping experience safe for everyone. Plus we now have the government’s test and trace programme which aims to keep the virus under control by identifying those with Covid-19 and then tracing those with whom they have been in contact, so they can isolate themselves from the rest of the community to stop further spread. The government has warned that if coronavirus looks like it is spreading massively in certain areas, those towns and villages will go back into lockdown in a bid to keep everyone safe. So, it is up to us all to make sure we comply to enable us to keep our freedoms. The sense of community spirit in the past 10 weeks has been enormous and we need to keep it up. If we act independently, we will not succeed, so let’s stick together. If you would like to contact me, email gillian.parkinson@jpimedia.co.uk. Until next time, stay safe everyone.
