The Lunch Line: Coronavirus vaccinations and seniors, plus the Saints' playoff push

with Bob Warren

It’s here. But it won’t likely go very far.

Seniors and some others in various priority groups have started hitting up area pharmacies to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The state this morning released a list of places giving out shots, but demand will far outstrip supply. The state has 10,500 doses of the Moderna vaccine, but more than 600,000 people who are now eligible to receive it, Sam Karlin reports.

Meanwhile, here's what eligible people in the New Orleans area should know about getting vaccinated. An important note: It's by appointment only – unlike at Supercuts, walk-ins won’t get the shot.

And the state is rolling out a $475,000 advertising campaign to help convince people to get the shot. Looks for ads on TV, radio and online in the coming weeks.

Speaking of coronavirus, we continue to deal with the recent surge in cases across the state and metro New Orleans region. Chad Calder recently took a deeper look at the numbers in Jefferson Parish.

In non-coronavirus news (well, I suppose everything is somehow tied to the thing these days), the Saints are preparing for a playoff matchup against the Chicago Bears. And Amie Just reports the game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is set for Sunday – which might just be the trick in getting star running back Alvin Kamara back in the lineup. Oh, let’s hope….

In other news this morning, Halle Parker spent some time in Plaquemines Parish’s citrus groves recently and has this story and Emily Woodruff writes that coronavirus restrictions have all but put an end to volunteers at hospitals and nursing homes.

By the way, are you a NOLA.com subscriber? If you are, thanks so much. But if you’re not, we’ve got a sweet offer for you. Great way to ring in the new year . . . check it out here.

All that and more in today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for joining us.
