Dog-sitting at the jail: An audit out this morning takes a critical look at the job performance of the man who once ran the city’s juvenile jail. Among the findings: the former jail chief was frequently absent and made jail employees care for his dog, a lab named Lacy, Matt Sledge reports.
TakeOff’s New Orleans show: The rapper TakeOff was fatally shot in Houston early Tuesday. He had performed just a couple days prior to that in New Orleans, where he was part of the Unc & Phew duo at Lil Wayne’s Lil Weezyana Fest, our music writer Keith Spera reports.
Civil rights investigation sought: The proposed $400 million grain elevator in the tiny community of Wallace has generated a good bit of controversy. Now, the National Urban League wants EPA to open a civil rights investigation into the grain terminal's backers, Mark Schleifstein reports.
