The Problem with Private Stocking

BOB MALLARD continues his year-long conservation series with a closer look at private fish stocking practices.  As you will read, sometimes the line between private and public stocking is blurred, leading to a confusing outcome and, at worst, damage to native fish and other resources. Says Mallard: "We don’t, and wouldn’t, allow the masses to deliberately release wildlife into our woods, so why do we let them release fish into our water?" Read "Private Stocking: A Public Problem."

INSIDE THE BOX: EPISODE #75 - YETI CAMINO CARRYALL 35 - Scott takes a close look at the new YETI Camino tote, a great option for wet waders/boots or to keep gear from soaking up the bilge water.

Tim Flagler reminisces about his childhood experiences of Cape Breton Island and the inspiration for the Margaree Bug, an easy-to-tie Atlantic salmon pattern that is swung close to the surface and can be fished either with or without a riffling hitch.

HOW TO NYMPH A GRAVEL SHELF

"Gravel shelves were almost invented for nymphing. Perfect micro habitat in the slope of incoming gravel, overhead cover, pockets of dead water for trout to hold, and a constant supply of oxygen and food drifting the current is a prime lie.'”  Watch now...

"SOME DAYS ARE EASIER THAN OTHERS"

"Henry Croucher pulled his square-stern Grumman onto the shore of Little Moose Lake. The boat’s aluminum hull glittered under the afternoon sun. It rained twice during the previous month, but the brief showers didn’t make up for the sustained drought that had gripped western Maine since early June."  Read on...
