Grocery price inflation flattens in September

Food price inflation was down in September but flattened for groceries and remained high for restaurants.

The food index rose 0.2% in September, as it did in the previous two months. The index for food at home increased 0.1% over the month, after rising 0.2% in August. Three of the six major grocery store food group indexes increased over the month.

Costco accused of sharing customer health info with Meta in lawsuit

The suit alleges that Costco inappropriately used Meta Pixel, a third-party tracking database.

The lawsuit, which was filed with the Washington Western District Court on Friday, alleges that Costco used Meta Pixel, a third-party tracking database, on its website to “surreptitiously disclose millions of Americans’private and protected communications, including their highly personal health information,” without customer consent.

Rite Aid files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Restructuring will give the company new hope, but hundreds of stores could close.

As it tries to dig out from under billions of dollars in debt mainly caused by opioid lawsuits, reports the Washington Post. The Chapter 11 filing allows the Philadelphia-based retailer to restructure its debt, which sits at $3.3 billion. Rite Aid is expected to close stores, which could be in the hundreds.

Amazon Fresh store becomes world’s first to achieve Zero Carbon Certification

The Seattle store was designed with sustainability features and has saved 100 tons of CO2 emissions since opening last year.

The 35,000-square-foot store opened in 2022 on Aurora Avenue in North Seattle, and was built with sustainability in mind. Its many climate-forward features include a natural-refrigerant-based refrigeration system, all-electric kitchen and more.The store’s certification is a step towards Amazon’s Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040.
