Good morning and welcome to the Nov. 22 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. We hope you have the turkey ready for the oven on this Thanksgiving Eve. The Saints return to the practice field today after their open date in Week 11. Meantime, here's our lineup of stories for today... For Pete's sake, make a changeSo the Pittsburgh Steelers followed the lead of the Buffalo Bills and fired their offensive coordinator on Monday. Which begs the question from some fans: Why can't or haven't the Saints done the same with embattled offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael? Matt Paras explains the latest edition of our "Saints Fans Ask" series. On the shelfMichael Thomas was placed on the short-term injured reserve list Monday, meaning the veteran receiver will be sidelined for at least the next four games, Matt Paras reports. Midseason breakdownOur coverage team got together recently to break down a variety of subjects on the Saints at the midway point of the season. Part I of our roundtable discussion focused on Derek Carr's performance and addressed the biggest issues from the first half of the season. Part II dealt with the NFC South race, individuals honors and a forecast for the rest of the season. Lagniappe--Columnist Rod Walker visited with backup quarterback (and former Heisman Trophy winner) Jameis Winston to gauge how he breaks down this year's Heisman Trophy race, in particular LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels. --Dennis Allen and his staff used the bye week to self-scout his team, and they identified some problem spots to address. --Allen provided updates and status reports on Carr, Marshon Lattimore and the team's other injured players. --The Saints' upcoming opponent, the Atlanta Falcons, will have a different quarterback under center when the teams meet on Sunday in Atlanta. That's all for today. We'll have more coverage and analysis throughout the week as the Saints begin preparations for the Falcons game on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. And don't forget to check out the Saints Insider YouTube page for this week’s podcasts, where myself and colleagues chop it up about all aspects of the Saints. Until next time, have a great day....
