Doulas could improve Louisiana's maternal mortality rates. Woman's Hospital is testing it out.

Louisiana holds one of the highest rates of infant and maternal mortality in the developed world. Which is why Woman's Hospital, one of the state's business birthing hospitals, is conducting a National Institutes of Health study along hospitals in Chicago and Newark to see if pairing patients with doulas can help turn the tide. Doulas provide emotional and physical support for patients and can help coach them through pregnancy, labor and delivery. Read the full story.
