Also, exploring the difference between an ADMS and a DERMS

Available and ready to ship, WAGO’s Compact Controller 100 remains a small-scale PLC with a wide variety of built-in I/O for use in smaller applications.  Programmed with Codesys 3.5, the PLC can still interface with industrial devices using protocols such as MODBUS TCP/UDP, EtherNet/IP or EtherCAT using the two on board EtherNet ports. Now the CC100 includes communication protocols such as BACnet, OPC/UA and DNP3 for the utility sector.

Eversource begins drilling on Massachusetts geothermal project

One of the many decarbonization challenges faced by electric utilities, particularly those who also have natural-gas-delivery businesses, is figuring out how to remove carbon emissions from the gas system. Should they investigate renewable natural gas as a replacement fuel or take the path of trying to get customers to convert everything to electricity? In Massachusetts, Eversource is pursuing a third option: geothermal. The utility is piloting the use of a geothermal loop that will connect 140 customers across nearly 40 buildings to provide a sustainable heating and cooling system regulated by the earth’s natural temperature. Our lead story has the details.

The strain on our aging power grid is becoming increasingly apparent, particularly during the sweltering summer months and frigid winter months when power demand is at its highest. Implementing a robust demand response program can make a substantial difference.

The project is meant to add resiliency and increase reliability to the electrical grid, as well as attract economic development projects in the region.
It is unrealistic for an ADMS, which is fundamentally designed for a different purpose, to offer the flexibility to deliver the breadth of calculation methods, interfaces, architectures, functions, and features that is required by a DERMS.
The two are partnering up to offer customers free surplus renewable energy in a bid to alleviate pressure from the power grid.
Great River Energy’s consortium includes proposals for solar, storage, distributed energy resource management systems and other initiatives.
The funding will go to projects that identify solutions to the technical challenges of integrating a changing energy resource mix into the electric grid.
The initiative will collaborate with more than 500 stakeholders including Amazon, the U.S. Department of Energy, and leading electric companies.
