Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider Newsletter for Wednesday, March 1. It's NFL Scouting Combine week. The Saints coaching and scouting staffs have descended on Indianapolis for the league's annual Underwear Olympics. More importantly, this is when team decision makers start meeting with agents and player reps to chart the course for the offseason. So stay tuned, because news will start breaking on a regular basis in the days and weeks ahead as teams start to position themselves for the start of free agency in mid-March. In fact, it already did on Tuesday with a report that the Saints are one of three teams scheduled to meet with free agent quarterback Derek Carr this week. Patrick Magee has the story. In other developments, Leonard Fournette's days with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly numbered. The former LSU and St. Augustine High School standout is expected to be released by the club in the next two weeks, Patrick Magee reports. In preparation for the start of the NFL Draft, our coverage team has compiled a series of positional previews, based on perceived areas of need, such as: - Quarterback (Hendon Hooker, anyone?)
- Running back (Sneaky big need!)
- Wide receiver (specifically one type of receiver)
- Defensive tackle (because they basically have none left)
Meanwhile, we'll have more news throughout the week as the workouts and press conferences take place at the Combine, starting on Wednesday. Until next time, Jeff Duncan |
