Few airline leaders have steered their company through the crisis years of 2020 and 2021 as steadily and successfully as Walter Cho, the chairman and CEO at Korean Air. Korean swiftly maximized its cargo capabilities and turned in an operating profit for every quarter of 2020, then a net profit for the 2021 first and second quarters. This and other accomplishments in customer service, employee relations and community and sustainability efforts have earned it the ATW 2021 Airline of the Year Award. Cho, who is also the chairman of the SkyTeam Alliance board and on the IATA Board of Governors, is now overseeing a major initiative to acquire and integrate Asiana.
