Dear Reader:

Today, Giving Tuesday, is an important day for non-profits such as the Middle East Forum. On behalf of our 39 specialists (staff and fellows), I thank you for your past support, and ask you again to support our efforts to promote American interests (most easily done by clicking here).

Launched 25 years ago as a traditional think-tank, MEF has evolved into a “think & action tank” teaming subject matter experts with activists to do things, such as protecting the homeland against Middle East threats.

For example, our experts have played an integral role in the Senate’s forthcoming Reporting of Foreign Funds for Transparency Act and the Department of Education’s new regulations to shine a light on billions flowing from hostile foreign governments – such as Islamist Qatar – to Middle East Studies programs at U.S. universities.

The Associated Press took notice of this reform effort on June 13, reporting that “the U.S. Education Department has opened investigations into foreign funding at Georgetown University … as part of a broader push to monitor international money flowing to American colleges.” Last year, we produced an in-depth report showing Middle East Studies at Georgetown are "the most intolerant, ideological, anti-Israel, and pro-Islamist in the United States.”

I look forward to updating you on this and our other initiatives; and remind you to think of the Middle East Forum today or later this month when you are making your philanthropic decisions.

Yours sincerely,

Gregg Roman
Director

(4) PLANNED GIVING: A gift in perpetuity enhances the Forum’s capabilities while allowing you to transfer more wealth to heirs. Each of the following four methods serves a different purpose and fits a specific investment plan:

  1. Charitable Bequest – to remove assets from a taxable estate and make a larger contribution than may be possible during one’s lifetime.
  2. Life Insurance – to gain a charitable income tax deduction for the cash surrender value and premiums of a life insurance policy.
  3. Retirement Plan – to reduce the size of a taxable estate, avoid income taxation on those funds, avoid income and estate taxes, and increase the amounts passing to heirs.
  4. Charitable Trust – to benefit a non-profit and transfer funds to heirs at a lower tax cost. Three types of charitable trusts exist: Charitable Remainder Trust, Charitable Lead Trust, Retained Life Estate.
