Court squashes state effort to stop redrawing of congressional map

Redistricting lawsuit: A federal appeals court on Friday shot down a last-ditch legal effort to stop the redrawing of Louisiana's congressional maps, rejecting Louisiana officials’ request to apply a separate court’s findings to the redistricting case. 


State budget: Gov.-elect Jeff Landry in January will inherit a state budget vastly changed from the one Gov. John Bel Edwards inherited in 2016, James Finn reports. The state will have a $395 million surplus next year, though economists warn the financial picture could soon change.
