Rejig of hospital services in to prepare for ‘second Covid spike’
View email online | | | | | Jul 28, 2020 | | | | | | Dear reader Northern Ireland’s health authorities are putting contingencies in place ahead of a possible second coronavirus spike in the autumn. It was revealed on Tuesday that Lagan Valley Hospital in Lisburn is set to become the Province’s first day procedure centre to allow elective surgeries to continue during a possible second spike. It also emerged that Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast and Altnagelvin Area Hospital in Londonderry will be designated hub sites for orthopaedic procedures. Health minister Robin Swann has revealed that the launch of a Covid-19 mobile phone tracking app is imminent. He told the Stormont Assembly that the app will help to break transmission chains and reduce the reproductive rate of Covid-19. Meanwhile, nine more cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Northern Ireland. However, no more Covid related deaths have been recorded here, meaning it is more than a fortnight since there has been a fatality linked to the virus.
