Australians who have had their hours of work and income significantly affected due to state lockdowns, may be eligible for a temporary COVID Disaster Payment from the Federal Government.

Eligible recipients will receive up to $500 per week for losing 20 hours or more of work, and $325 per week for losing under 20 hours. They must not have liquid assets of more than $10,000.

This support will be available for Australian citizens and permanent residents and eligible working visa holders. Individuals who are already receiving income support payments, business support payments, or the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment will not be eligible for this new payment.

To qualify, people will need to have exhausted any leave entitlements (other than annual leave) or other special pandemic leave.

The payment will complement existing payments including the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment.

Access to Services Australia Disaster Assistance will be open to the public from Tuesday at www.servicesaustralia.gov.au or over the phone on 180 22 66.

Will businesses be fined if they are not operating the QR code check-in system?

YES, if businesses that are mandated to utilise electronic record-keeping, are not operating the Victorian Government approved QR Code check-in system, Authorised Officers from the Victorian Government will issue an on-the-spot $1,652 fine.

In using the QR Code system, businesses will need to make sure the QR code is visible and accessible, and do everything possible to ensure people are checking in – for example, point the customer to the QR code and ask them to check in.

A full step-by-step guide for businesses on how to use the free Victorian Government QR Code Check-in System is available here.

Businesses can register online here and will need to nominate a contact person for each business location.
