There was sad news on the front page on this day in 1986 with reports a Canberra man as the only survivor of a boating disaster near Devonport. Two men had drowned after their six-metre runabout was swamped. The third man, Peter Davidson of Canberra, was recovering in hospital after he heroically swam three kilometres to raise the alarm.
