Good evening If the experience in Scotland is anything to go by, we need to prepare for a rocky few weeks with regards to rising Covid figures. Almost as soon as pupils returned to the classroom, cases North of the border went, well ... northwards. So here in Lancashire we will almost certainly see something similar. Pupils are going to find restrictions inside schools have changed - no masks, no isolating unless you have a Covid test and a genuine desire to keep as many people in the classroom as possible. Children across the country have missed out on a lot of schooling since March 2020 and that is time they are never going to get back. So it is critical that we take sensible decisions in the months to come to ensure not just their safety but their futures. While we may have to keep some restrictions - youngsters are being asked to wear masks on public transport as they travel to school for instance - we need to play the long game here. Otherwise we could end up with a generation of youngsters who never really fulfill their potential. And that would be another tragedy of this pandemic.
