It's been a big week with three major events taking place — we celebrated Halloween then set back our clocks from Daylight Saving and headed straight into Election Day.
This weekend is even Rivalry Week between BYU and Utah.
I hope each of us takes the time to rest and recharge at some point and to also follow the advice of Jacob Hess to consider others in times of distress:
"For those not currently feeling this kind of higher reassurance, hopefully they can feel encouraged by the real human beings around them in the weeks ahead as we enter the holiday season. No matter how you voted, make sure we’re one of those people this week."
Cox addresses general election results at state Capitol press conference
Late Tuesday night Utah Gov. Spencer Cox expressed hope that former President Donald Trump’s reelection victory would provide an opportunity to unify the Republican Party.
Cox, a longtime Trump skeptic, had extended his support to the Republican nominee for president days after July’s failed assassination attempt in a bid to encourage a more conciliatory approach to Trump’s politics.
“We will work hard to to unite the party over the next four years and to make sure that conservatives and the values that have made Utah so special for so long will continue to be the values of Utah,” Cox told the Deseret News.
Meanwhile, Utahns voted in Rep. John Curtis to replace Mitt Romney in the Senate.
He will join the Senate at a time when Republicans will be in the majority for the first time since Democrats wrestled control of the chamber from them in the 2020 elections.
Read more about how Cox plans to bridge divides and read more about how Utah's newest U.S. senator says he will be ‘tip of the spear’ on Social Security reform in the Senate.
