Shaker Square’s culinary revival includes Coyoacán Taqueria & Brew 

Experienced restaurateur and investment advisor Rey Galindo is bringing a new brewpub to Shaker Square in mid to late October. Coyoacán Taqueria & Brew, named for his family’s hometown just outside Mexico City, will be in the space formerly occupied by Balaton restaurant. Thai Thai in Lakewood has debuted its original recipe for Chili Fish Sauce available for retail purchase. The Thai restaurant at 13415 Madison Avenue posted on Instagram about its latest product. Liu Fang of Abundance Culinary recognized as 2024 Chef to Watch 

Liu Fang, the head chef/owner of Abundance Culinary in Cleveland Heights, was recently recognized by Plate Magazine as one of their Chefs to Watch of 2024. Fang was part of the magazine’s 10th class of Chefs to Watch, an annual list that recognizes up-and-coming chefs who they anticipate will continue to grow in their comprehensive culinary careers. 26th Taste of the Browns is held 

The annual Taste of the Browns was held at Huntington Bank Field, with Browns players mingling with patrons who enjoyed a ton of food, drink and amazing auction items. Limited tickets for Ohio Craft Whiskey Festival drop at 9 a.m., Sept. 20 

If you like whiskey, set an alarm for 9 a.m., Friday, September 20, and get your tickets to the Fourth Annual Ohio Craft Whiskey Festival. That’s when tickets go live on social media at Ohio Distiller’s Guild, Henmick Farm & Brewery and participating distilleries. Ohio’s biggest spirits festival of the year is from 12 to 5 p.m., Saturday, October 19, at Henmick’s Farm & Brewery, 4380 North Old State Road, Delaware, Ohio. Jamerican Kitchen offers authentic Jamaican flavors

After a two-year hiatus, Jamerican Kitchen is back, bigger and better. The new Jamerican Kitchen & Café, near the Richmond Road-Chagrin Boulevard intersection and in the same plaza as Heck’s Café, opened in August. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Masa & Agave offers a Mexican menu plus 150 tequilas & 50 mezcals 

Masa & Agave Cantina has opened quietly this month in The Westin Cleveland Downtown. It’s not to be confused with Agave & Rye Cleveland a few blocks to the west. Masa & Agave verges on relaxed fine dining, while Agave & Rye is more casual. Putting “Agave” in the name refers to the restaurants’ focus on agave spirits such as tequila and mezcal. Masa & Agave is one of two such concepts developed by Apicii, a national hospitality group behind a diverse portfolio of restaurants, bars and private event spaces nationwide. Cleveland Pickle Fest

Cleveland Pickle Fest is returning downtown this month for pickle fanatics to relish in their love for the tangy food group. Food vendors, contests, live music and more are in store for the annual Cleveland Pickle Fest at Mall C on September 21. Proceeds from Pickle Fest benefit the Greater Cleveland Volunteers, which organizes the event. READ MORE

 

Doughnuts and beer pairing set at Great Lakes Brewing Co. 

Great Lakes Brewing Co.’s upcoming Hop College class will feature a beer and doughnut pairing with Brewnuts. Two 90-minute sessions are available, at 6 and 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. Brewnuts co-owner John Pippin and Great Lakes Brewing’s cicerone Michael Williams will guide the tasting, which includes four 5-ounce beers paired with four mini doughnuts from Brewnuts. Angel’s Envy Whiskey dinner coming up at The Aviator 

The Aviator Event Center and Pub is holding a multi-course dinner paired with drinks from Angel’s Envy. The dinner - which is Thursday, Sept. 26 – has pricing options with or without Bourbon. Hermann J. Wiemer, a pioneering winery in New York’s Finger Lakes region, will be featured at a tasting at 750ml Wines in Akron. Little Italy Meatball Crawl and Wine Tasting

The Taste in Little Italy Meatball Crawl and Wine Tasting is set for Sunday, September 29 in Cleveland. Taste in Little Italy, local businesses and the Cleveland Montessori organize the annual event, which serves as a fundraiser for the school at Alta House. 111 Bistro dinner features Italian wines 

111 Bistro in Medina has scheduled a dinner featuring wines from the Veneto region of Italy. The dinner is Thursday, Oct. 3. 111 Bistro is at 2736 Medina Road, Medina. The restaurant also is in the midst of shifting some of its space for retail wines sales. READ MORE 

 

Pints and Pies is coming up 

Pints and Pies is set at Akron Civic Theatre. It’s a food and drink fest pairing craft beer with pies, both savory and sweet. Dante in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood is holding a six-course dinner featuring acclaimed and favorite Opus One wines. Ken Stewart’s Grille 

There’s a reason why Ken Stewart’s Grille has been serving customers in its fine-dining spot in West Akron for more than 30 years. It’s a classic, with a traditional menu and great 200-bottle wine list. From steak tartare or truffle fries to seven cuts and an assortment of beef toppings. It’s at 1970 W. Nate’s Deli & Restaurant 

While many restaurants have come and gone on West 25th, Nate’s Deli & Restaurant has been a fixture since 1988. The family-owned deli serves Mediterranean food as well as traditional American deli sandwiches. Among the Lebanese-influenced dishes are hummus, baba ganouj, stuffed grape leaves and even raw Kibbee (a spiced, raw lamb and bulgur wheat mixture). Platters and wraps include shish kebab (lamb), shish tawook (chicken with garlic sauce) and kafta (seasoned ground beef). Finish it all with homemade baklava. La Bodega 

La Bodega is a tried-and-true deli in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood for a reason. The no-nonsense lunch spot doesn’t rely on flashy social media marketing to stay busy – it’s an “if you know, you know” type of restaurant. The massive sandwiches are loaded with fresh ingredients sold at unbeatable prices. Its picnic salads, coleslaw and other dishes also make for an ideal lunch.
