A Pentecostal church in Wisconsin has confirmed that a child member of its congregation has died from injuries sustained in the Waukesha Christmas parade attack on Sunday. Jackson Sparks had marched in the parade with the Waukesha Blazers little-league baseball team when an SUV plowed into the event.
The Biden administration is revoking Trump-era waivers from federal nondiscrimination law granted to faith-based foster care providers in three states, drawing pushback from Christian conservatives and praise from progressives. "We need more organizations serving children in foster care, not less. There are currently 423,997 children in the U.S. foster care system ... At a time when children need safe, permanent, and loving homes, the government should be ensuring that more providers can serve," the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission said in a statement.
A pro-life activist who was arrested twice in one week is urging others in the movement to abandon their fear of legal consequences by joining her in vowing that “we will not be silenced.” Terrisa Bukovinac, a pro-lifer who also identifies as a liberal atheist, recently launched the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising. “We are at a precipice now. We are so close to a victory, and it’s going to require an immense amount of bravery from those within our movement," she stated.
Nearly 60 years after C.S. Lewis’ death, his spiritual evolution is getting a fresh look through the popular, new film, “The Most Reluctant Convert: The Untold Story of C.S. Lewis.” In this video, actor Max McLean, who plays Lewis in the movie, discusses the author's stunning transformation from “hard-boiled atheist” to Christian apologist.
A Dallas clinic that garnered controversy for providing puberty blockers to children with gender dysphoria has closed down after protests. Clinic officials didn’t specify a reason for the dissolution but explained in a statement that other entities will serve their current patients moving forward.
Wallace B. Henley writes about the allure of nationalism and cautions against evangelical churches falling into its trap. "I say this as one who has worked in both politics and church ... the church, no matter its doctrinal beliefs, must not follow the sniff of the nationalist bait and fall into the snare, because it is the seductive scent of power that diverts the church from its God-given Kingdom mission," he writes.
The sheriff of Loudoun County, Va., is alleging that the county’s superintendent of schools knew about a sexual assault that took place in one of the district’s high schools despite his assertion to the contrary. “[D]espite a public statement at a School Board meeting on June 22, 2021 denying any knowledge of sexual assaults in any LCPS bathrooms, you sent an email on May 28, 2021 to members of the School Board advising them of the incident – thus invalidating your public statement,” Sheriff Michael Chapman wrote in a letter to Superintendent Scott Ziegler.

We Move Together

Hi Friend,

As we enter the final months of 2021, we want to know: How are you doing?

In the midst of ongoing injustice, rising rates of extreme poverty, disasters and mass displacement, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. You may have begun to wonder, is it even possible to create lasting change? I want to respond to Jesus’ call to love and serve the vulnerable. Does anyone else?

We understand how you feel.

And yet, in Acts chapter 17, the apostle Paul writes that God has marked out the appointed times in history and the very places where each of us exists. That’s a powerful thought! And that’s why we invite you to join us as we pause and reflect through the Advent season this year.

JOURNEY WITH US THROUGH ADVENT

In this four-part devotional series, we’ll journey together through the themes of HOPE, PEACE, FAITH and JOY. As we pause to connect with God and one another, we’ll be renewed and reminded that Jesus — God with us, Emmanuel — is still inviting us to be his hands and feet in the world today.

Here’s what to expect when you sign-up:

  • A live kick-off event on December 1st to gather with others from across the World Relief community
  • Weekly devotionals from voices across World Relief sharing prayer, scripture and reflection resources
  • Weekly activities for families to participate together
  • Surprise pre-Advent resources to inspire and prepare your heart

Creating change that lasts isn’t easy, but it’s possible when we move together. Will you join us?

Moving Towards Change Together,
World Relief
