Weekly Roundup | FPPE and no-volume providers | Consider focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) with regard to the no-volume provider. Most of the time, these physicians are either part of a large group, such as emergency medicine coverage, that covers many hospitals (as is often the case with low-volume providers). There also may be physicians who had every intention of practicing in the hospital but who have not yet done so. |
Standardize the red flag file review | Ensure a comprehensive and consistent red flag file review with a set list of questions, says Linda Waldorf, BS, CPMSM, CPCS, director of the central credentialing office (CCO) at the University of North Carolina Healthcare System in Chapel Hill. Having a uniform and transparent process makes it easier for MSPs to speak up if they encounter an issue on a file. |
Make the case as to why your organization should seek payer delegation | If your organization is experiencing delays in revenue, you may not necessarily be aware of it, says Amy Niehaus, CPMSM, CPCS, MBA. Talk to your CFO or billing department. If you’re writing off accounts receivable or holding claims, they’re tracking that and know exactly how much money they’re waiting to receive from payers or may have to write off and never receive from payers. That’s something that would influence whether you need to seek delegation. |
