So said Claudine Humure after she designed a 3-D-printed, adjustable prosthetic socket for transfemoral amputees in developing countries. An amputee herself, Humures goal is to start a prosthetic clinic in her home country Rwanda that will supply amputees who are not able to afford the costly prostheses on the market today. She will discuss her journey from amputee to advocate and prosthesis designer as well as the future of prosthetics globally with Fogarty International Center Director, Roger I. Glass and NICHD National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research Director, Theresa Cruz. Claudine Humure is a former Partnership Coordinator at the University of Global Health Equity. She is currently working towards her masters in Prosthetics and Orthotics at the University of Washington. She interned at MITs Media Lab in 2015-2016 and won an OZY Media Genius Award in 2017. She hosted and was a featured speaker at the 2020 conference, Transforming Amputation & Prosthetic Services Globally. |
