Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week, I championed Republican policies that will create opportunity and restore hope for the American people. Whether that’s standing against China’s efforts to hijack American technology or calling on Congress to pass border security legislation, I believe Americans deserve to live in a country that is safe from threats – both at home and abroad.

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:26

The Week In Review

Creating Opportunity For Americans

Image

Watch my full interview with Trey Gowdy here

The Biden administration’s open border policy has created an unprecedented illegal immigration crisis that is draining our nation’s infrastructure and resources. Sanctuary cities like New York should serve as a warning of the consequences of open borders and far-left policies. They are making Americans shoulder the burden of open borders as they cut school funding and slash law enforcement training from city budgets to pay for illegal immigration. The people who stand to lose the most because of these cuts are those who grew up like me – folks already struggling with poverty, failing schools and broken communities.

I went on Fox News to highlight the Republican policies that have lifted millions of Americans, particularly those in minority communities, out of poverty and helped them live out their version of the American Dream. I will continue the fight to end mass illegal immigration and secure opportunity for every American.

Condemning the Left’s Anti-Israel Acts

Watch my reaction to the anti-Israel resolution here

This week, the Senate voted on an unprecedented resolution that could have jeopardized our support for Israel. This resolution was a shameful stunt that falsely equated Israel’s acts to defend its sovereignty with the brutality Hamas inflicted on October 7th, 2023.

As a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, I condemned this anti-Israel resolution. The Israeli people have been the victims of countless human rights abuses and unspeakable brutality at the hands of Hamas, and I choose to stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters – not terrorists.

Standing Up to China

Watch my full opening statement here.

This week, the Senate Banking Committee held a hearing on “National Security Challenges: Outpacing China in Emerging Technology.” As the top Republican on the Banking Committee, I highlighted the growing threat the Communist Party of China (CCP) poses to the U.S. economy. American exceptionalism is under attack from a country that doesn’t want to play by the rules: China. To make sure our success does not become the victory of others, the United States government must act strategically and with strength to protect opportunities for growth at home and abroad.

However, the Biden administration continues to put politics over policy, focusing on attacking the legal firearms industry and pursuing the limits of climate financing. Every time President Biden chooses politics over protecting and promoting economic opportunity for Americans, it plays right into China’s hands. We need leadership that ensures we remain the economic global gold standard and stays focused on countering the real threat – China. I remain committed to making sure our leaders do just that.

Exposing the Government’s Efforts to Target Conservatives

This week, I sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Yellen and FinCEN Director Gacki following recent reports that Treasury and FinCEN instructed financial institutions to infringe on Americans’ privacy and surveil their customers’ transactions using politically charged search terms. If these allegations are true, it is a flagrant violation of Americans’ privacy and the improper targeting of U.S. citizens for exercising their constitutional rights without due process.

Palmetto State Pride

This week, I’m spilling the sweet tea on Murlern Jean, a school resource officer for Laurel Hill Primary in Mt. Pleasant. When this two-time Olympian isn’t training, Ms. Jean is investing in the safety of her students. I’m thankful for her commitment to keeping kids safe, happy and ready to learn!
