The doctor is not in: Don't misdiagnose yourself on the internetWhen you donât feel well, the first question you probably ask yourself is, âWhatâs wrong with me?â And instead of calling a doctor, the internet is so much more convenient, right? You might want to reconsider that. According to a recent survey of 2,000 Americans by LetsGetChecked and OnePoll, 43% of respondents said they managed to misdiagnose themselves after relying on âDr. Googleâ for help. Not just that, researchers found more than 60% of those who used Google to diagnose their symptoms received an inaccurate diagnosis. And those bad diagnoses would actually cause them to worry about serious diseases or other health problems they didnât even have. On the other hand, the survey also found just over 50% of respondents consult a medical professional when trying to determine what their symptoms really mean. Google might be cheaper and more convenient than going to see a real doctor, but the tech giant certainly didnât go to medical school. Skip Google if you're feeling sick. It is useful for a lot of other things, though. Here are some tricks to make your next search more effective. â |
