Crime is falling. Has public opinion of the NOPD also improved?

Good morning -- Here are some of your top headlines for today.

GRADING THE FORCE: It seems New Orleans residents are warming up to their police force. After support cratered to an all-time low last year at the tail end of a historic surge in violent crime, the latest annual survey finds public satisfaction with the NOPD ticking back up. Missy Wilkinson has the story.

FRENCH FRIED: St. Aug's intrepid Marching 100 is wrapping up an epic trip to France to perform for D-Day commemorations. Keith Spera has followed them every step of the way and fills us in on band members fighting exhaustion and finding the Mona Lisa.

CHEERS: The celebrated French Quarter tavern Jewel of the South and the modern Senegalese tasting menu restaurant Dakar NOLA were the toast of the James Beard awards on Monday night. Ian McNulty reports on the big awards.

ON DECK: Former LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri is headed to a new job -- at a rival school. Patrick Magee and Koki Riley take a swing at it.

Thanks for joining us for your morning headlines. Check back to nola.com throughout the day for the latest updates.
