About the Authors

Shelley Cohen, RN, MSN, CEN, is the founder of Health Resources Unlimited, a Tennessee-based education and consulting company that focuses on teaching triage, new managers, and critical thinking concepts. As the author/co-author of 18 books and more than 50 published articles, Cohen coaches and mentor’s nurses from the level of novice to expert. For more than 40 years she has held a variety of roles as both a staff nurse and nurse leader.

Alison Basmajian, RN, MSN, has worked in home health for more than 30 years. She currently works at VNA of Boston and Home Health VNA, Lawrence, MA.

Polly Gerber Zimmermann, RN, MS, MBA, CEN, FAEN, has experience in staff and management medical-surgical and emergency nursing. She is an associate professor in the Chicago City Colleges School of Nursing-Malcolm X Campus. She is a frequent author on nursing topics including critical thinking.
