If you're torn between a beach or city holiday, there's no need to choose at this stylish hotel in the historic heart of Croatia's second-largest city. The ultra-modern designer hotel Prima Luce is situated close to the beautiful pebble beaches of the Adriatic's Dalmatian Coast, while also boasting a prime Split address, only 400 yards from the UNESCO-protected Diocletian’s Palace – the former residence of a Roman emperor.
Located on the third floor of the Prima Grad department store, Prima Luce opened after extensive renovation in 2017. Each of its 10 plush guestrooms offers views over the terracotta rooftops of the city and are chock-a-block with modern amenities such as iPads and iPod docks, rainfall showers and memory foam mattresses. A coffee bar occupies the top floor, while you’ll find a nightclub on the ground floor for book-ending your days of sightseeing.
Split is a city of impressive and imposing ancient Roman and Gothic architecture, museums and galleries packed with archaeological riches, and a maze-like Old Town with a vibrant nightlife scene once the sun sets. Two busy markets, a hidden synagogue (tucked away in a passageway off Bosanska in Diocletian’s Palace), a sphinx from 1,500BC and a grand cathedral are just a handful of the sights on offer.
As well as cultural gems, it boasts a glut of beaches with more bars and clubs dotted along its jagged stretch of coastline. After sampling the bounty of the local seafood restaurants, be sure to wander along the seafront promenade of the Riva, pausing at cafes and bars for a sunset drink before getting swept up in Split’s after-hours scene that shows the Old Town’s stone walls are alive. |
